Teaching is often a journey of growth, and my recent experience with online microteaching marked a significant milestone in this journey. The opportunity to conduct a lesson on fractions for a Grade 3 class was both thrilling and daunting, especially since it was my first time teaching in an online environment. This reflection will delve into various aspects of my microteaching experience, including what went well, the challenges I faced, whether I met my learning objectives, the ICT tools I chose, the lessons I learned, and how I incorporated feedback from peers. Through this reflection, I hope to share insights that can benefit fellow educators embarking on a similar journey.
What Went Well
Engaging the Learners
One of the most rewarding aspects of my online microteaching lesson was the level of engagement I achieved with my learners. At the beginning of the lesson, I utilized Kahoot, an interactive quiz platform, to assess their prior knowledge of fractions. This activity served as an excellent icebreaker, as learners were excited to participate and share their thoughts. The immediate feedback from the poll not only informed me about their understanding but also sparked enthusiasm for the topic.
The use of visual aids, such as PowerPoint slides and practical examples, significantly contributed to the success of my lesson.
